Racing Santander beat Valladolid 2-0 in the last game of Sunday evening, taking the Cantabrians up to ninth and leaving their opponents in the drop zone. Despite their high position in the table, Racing had only scored three goals all season. And the first half only produced a couple of chances, a shot over the top from Llorente and an effort from Smolarek which Alberto saved without too many problems.

Toño's first real intervention didn't come until after the break, the keeper saving from Kome, but eight minutes in to the second half the tedium was broken when Smolarek finally beat Alberto. Colsa could have extended the lead a couple of times soon afterwards, but Toño had to be at his best to keep out Víctor and then Ogbeche minutes later at the other end.

With a couple of minutes to go though Tchite headed a second goal from a Munitis cross, and any hope the visitors had of recovery ended when Llorente was sent off for a second bookable offence. Racing's new signings had saved the day, and at last the fans can start to forget Zigic.
