Real Madrid extended their lead at the top of the table to two points after a 2-0 victory over Recreativo Huelva. Bernd Schuster's side had the better of the first half, with Van Nistelrooy and Raúl in particular going close a couple of times, Robben bringing a good save out of Sorrentino and Sergio Ramos heading against the bar. But Casillas also had to make a couple of important saves to keep the scores level at the break, including a double stop from Jesús Vázquez and Beto shortly before the half time whistle.

Robben hit the post after the restart though, and Van Nistelrooy finally opened the scoring after Raúl set him up later in the second half. Sergio Ramos hit the post again and Higuain got the ball into the net soon afterwards, but both efforts were ruled out for offside. There were some nervous moments for the home fans however when Sinama-Pongolle shot at Casillas and Marquitos fired another chance over the top. But with the game coming to an end Higuaín ran on to Guti's pass to round the keeper and put the game beyond Recre's reach.
