Getafe beat Athletic Bilbao 2-0 on Wednesday night to move to within a point of escaping the drop zone. Casquero started things off early on, driving a shot past Gorka after Kepa laid back Pablo's free kick, and Uche headed wide before scoring the second, beating the keeper at the second attempt after picking up a pass from De la Red on the half hour mark.

Michael Laudrup's team could have extended their lead after the break, Gorka saving from Kepa and Pablo and Licht firing a shot over the top. The Basque side didn't wake up until later on, with Amorebieta and Llorente both heading over the top, but when Amorebieta was sent off for a second booking it was all over. Getafe had their second league win of the season, and Athletic are now only two points above them.
