Athletic Bilbao recorded their first home win of the season, beating Recreativo 2-0 in the last game on Sunday evening to leave the Andalusians down in the relegation spots. The Basque side themselves started the weekend just above the drop zone, but they could have gone ahead when Susaeta shot wide and Aduriz fired an effort straight at the keeper before the break.

In the end though it was long server Etxeberría who won it for them with two goals in eight minutes after the restart, turning in Iraola's cross for his 100th goal in the league in his 400th game with Athletic, and then firing into an empty net after Aduríz challenged keeper Sorrentino. The visitors felt that the goal should have been disallowed though, first for a foul on the keeper and then because a couple of players were standing in an offside position. Referee Clos Gómez didn't agree.
