Espanyol held on to sixth spot after a 1-1 at Racing Santander, despite putting out a weakened side and playing for the last few minutes with ten men. The Cantabrians created the chances early on, with Garay and Tchité shooting wide and Munitis having an effort blocked by a defender.

Moisés and Luis García both went close before the break, but ten minutes after the restart Racing had a chance to go ahead when they were awarded a penalty for a foul by Torrejón on Munitis. And although Kameni pushed Garay's spot kick on to the post, Tchité got in quicker than anyone to turn the ball in to the net.

Valverde threw on Spanish internationals Tamudo, Riera and De la Peña in quick succession, but his side were left with ten men when Coro was sent off for a hard tackle on ex Espanyol winger Oscar Serrano.

However they didn't let that upset them, and Tamudo converted a second penalty in the last minute after Luis Fernández brought down Luis García to extend the Catalans' unbeaten run to seven games.
