Valladolid beat bottom club Levante 1-0 on Sunday evening to move away from the relegation spots to fourteenth in the table. Both sides had chances in the first half, with Riganò heading wide a couple of times and Víctor and Rafa failing to find the target at the other end.

But the hosts took control after the restart, with Vivar Dorado, Marcos and Jonathan Sesma all trying their luck before Sesma struck a spectacular winner, picking up a bouncing ball with his back to goal and hooking in a shot which, if scored by Ronaldinho, would have been shown around the world.

Sisi and Ogbeche both wasted chances to extend the lead later on, but Mendilibar's side had done enough to record their first home win of the season and take their unbeaten run to four matches.
