Racing Santander are one of the surprise sides of the season, and they moved up into the UEFA Cup spots after coming from behind to beat Mallorca 3-1. Webó was back in Gregorio Manzano's starting line up for the first time since recoving from an injury, and after going close from a Jonás cross he opened the scoring, heading Ibagaza's free kick down past Toño in the ninth minute.

The strike was cancelled out ten minutes later though by Jorge López following a free kick which was taken so quickly that even the plethora of television cameras didn't pick it up. A few minutes later the visitors were left with ten men when Webó was sent off for elbowing Oriol, and soon afterwards Duscher put the Cantabrians ahead with a shot from outside of the area past Lux.

Numbers were evened up before half time after Oscar Serrano was given a second booking, and the Islanders came close to equalising after Pereyra headed wide and Toño turned Ibagaza's free kick onto the post either side of half time. But Smolarek missed a couple of east chances at the other end, and Munitis wrapped things up seven minutes from the end after getting on the end of Tchité's cross to shoot into the roof of the net.
