Atlético Madrid held on to third place in the table even though they were held to a 0-0 draw at Recreativo. Despite the scoreline both keepers had a lot of work to do, with Sorrentino in particular saving from Simao and Forlán in the opening minutes. Martins fired a long shot wide at the other end, but the visitors felt themselves unlucky not to be in the lead before the break after Forlán drilled a rebound into the net only for referee Daudén Ibáñez to rule out the goal and book Maxi for what he considered to be a dive at the feet of the keeper.

Recre started the second half well, with Abbiati keeping out Camuñas after Pernía let him through, and Sinama-Pongolle shooting just wide. Agüero just failed to lob Sorrentino a few minutes later, and after Abbiati saved again from Camuñas, the local keeper did well to stop efforts from Reyes and Luis García near the end. The Andalusians had closed down Atlético's goal machine though, and the point took them up to twelfth in the table.
