Espanyol moved back up to the Champions League spots pending Sunday's games after beating bottom club Levante 1-0. Jarque got the only goal early on after a corner was only cleared as far as Moha, the defender following up after his first header from Moha's cross was blocked by keeper Storari.

The Catalans were missing the suspended Riera and Luis García though, and were unable to build on their lead after that. The closest they came to scoring in the rest of the first half was when Alvaro almost turned Zabaleta's cross into his own net, and it was not until De la Peña came on after the break that Tamudo put the keeper to the test again.

Levante themselves were never a threat however, with only one weak effort from Riganò to their name throughout the ninety minutes. And with players complaining as well about not being paid for several weeks, they already look to have one foot in the second division.
