Mallorca drop down to eighth in the table after drawing 0-0 against Athletic Bilbao, their fourth home game in a row without a win. The visitors applied the early pressure, Navarro blocking an effort from Etxeberría and Lux saving from David López.

But Varela headed against the post for the islanders midway through the first half, and Aranzubia did well to keep out a header from Pereyra. And although Nunes was sent off on the half hour mark for insulting the referee, Güiza could have given the home side the lead when he shot wide close to half time.

Both keepers were in action early in the second half, Lux stopping an effort from Llorente and Aranzubia saving from Güiza. Caparrós urged his men forward, and Lux had to keep out Etxeberría again. But the locals could have won it in the final moments, Basinas shooting over the bar with the goal at his mercy in injury time.
