Sevilla are up to eighth in the table after a 4-1 win over Racing Santander, who themselves remain in sixth spot despite the defeat. Kanouté gave the Andalusians the lead midway through the first half, Alves putting the finishing touches to a good team move. And Kerzhakov and Kanouté both missed chances to increase the lead before the break.

Up to that point Racing's only chance was an effort by Munitis which didn't trouble De Sanctis, but the keeper was called upon to turn a shot from Garay around the post soon after the restart. And from the resulting corner, the central defender got ahead of his marker to head the equaliser wide of the keeper.

Chevantón came on though and almost immediately restored the lead with a free kick which Coltorti (making his debut in place of the injured Toño) should have stopped. Jesús Navas came close to scoring a third a few minutes later, and Garay got himself sent off for a foul on Capel with ten minutes to go.

That signalled the end, and Alves hit the bar with a free kick before Navas made it three after Maresca put him through. With the game coming to an end Adriano completed the scoreline after running through to beat Coltorti, and it could have been five after Poulsen headed an Alves free kick against the post in injury time.
