Atlético Madrid moved above Villarreal to fourth in the table after beating struggling Deportivo 0-3. Javier Aguiire's side were on top right from the start, Maxi going close a couple of times before Diego Forlán put them ahead when he turned in an Antonio López cross shortly before the break.

The locals did improve at the start of the second half, De Guzman shooting way over, Pablo having to clear off the line from Lafita and Abbiati having to make a couple of saves. But then Agüero produced his usual moment of magic to cut through the defence and score the second from a wide angle, and Atlético were back on track.

Abbiati was lucky to be let off a penalty soon afterwards when he dropped the ball at the feet of Lafita and then bundled over the forward trying to get it back. But Jurado headed the third after the defence failed to clear a corner . Depor did have a couple more chances after that, Abbiati saving from Bodipo and Adrián coming on to cause some problems. But the Galicians drop further down into the relegation zone, and coach Lotina needs to pick up some points pretty quickly if he is to stay in his job much longer.
