Real Madrid ended the first half of the season with a record number of points after beating Levante 0-2. It took them some time to get going though against the bottom club in the league, and once again Casillas (who shook off a stomach bug to play) was called upon a couple of times early on from Alvaro and Pedro León. Madrid could have been ahead at the break though after Baptista and Raúl both had shots cleared off the line by Courtois.

Baptista and Robinho both hit the post after the restart as Madrid pushed forward, and Kujovic saved well from Raúl. Robinho had a penalty claim turned down, but soon after the referee did award them one after Higuaín's cross hit José Serrano on the arm, Van Nistelrooy stepping up to convert the spot kick. And two minutes from the end the Dutch striker got his second of the night with an angled shot past Kujovic after Guti had set him up- that took them on to 47 points at the half way stage, and the question now is whether they can reach the ton.
