Villarreal drop a place to fourth after they were held to a 1-1 draw by Mallorca. Both sides were suffering a hangover from their midweek cup defeats, but referee Rodríguez Santiago lent them a hand with two dubious first half penalties, the first converted by Rossi after Héctor tripped Cazorla, and the second scored by Basinas after Godín pushed Ballesteros.

Earlier on Güiza had wasted the easiest of chances, Diego López deflecting his shot over the top, and Moyà had saved from Capdevila. Moyà was in action again to keep out a Godín header, and then save a couple of efforts from Nihat either side of half time. Rossi and Guille Franco also went close later on, but Güiza brought another good save out of Diego López before both sides decided that a point was enough.
