Espanyol drop out of the top four after a 1-2 defeat at the hands of Recreativo. B team coach Manolo Zambrano was in charge of the Andalusians for the first time after Víctor Muñoz was fired midweek, and he saw Sinama-Pongolle hit the post before scoring two times in an eight minute period in the first half, the first after picking up a headed pass to beat Casilla with a shot on the turn, and the second after connecting with Poli's cross. And the French striker could have completed his hat-trick when he shot over with only the keeper to beat ten minutes later.

Injuries to Jonathan, Moisés and Lacruz meant that Valverde had used up all his substitutes by the interval, but new signing Ewerthon came on to get one back after Riera headed on a Luis García corner shortly before half time. Aitor hit the post again before the break, and after the restart Riera fired a shot against the bar, Rufete failing to turn in the rebound. Recre held on for the three points though which takes them above Deportivo and out of the relegation zone.
