Atlético Madrid moved back up to fourth in the table after beating sixth placed Racing Santander 0-2 on Sunday evening. Both goals were scored by Diego Forlán in the second half, the first after picking up a square pass from Kun Agüero, and the second with a spectacular shot from outside of the area.

The Cantabrians had started well, with Bolado and Garay going close and Abbiati having to save from Duscher and Colsa. But as the first half wore on they handed over control, and only some fine saves by Coltorti from Forlán and Pernia prevented a half time lead for the visitors.

Atlético could have won by more, with Coltorti keeping out Forlán and Agüero after the break, but they had already done enough for the three points. Despite the defeat Racing stay in the European spots, but three teams are now only one point behind them.
