Racing Santander moved back above Sevilla into the UEFA Cup spots after a late 0-1 victory over Valladolid. Visiting coach Marcelino rested several of his players after their midweek cup defeat at Getafe, and they were pushed back in the opening minutes, with Llorente heading a corner over the top and Toño saving from Víctor. Smolarek and Jorge López both went close as the Cantabrians recovered later in the first half though, and Smolarek got the ball in the net only for it to be ruled out for offside.

The attacks at both ends fizzled out as the two sides wrestled for control after the restart, but gradually the Cantabrians took control. Sergio Asenjo did well to tip an Oriol header round the post and then block a shot from Jorge López, and Colsa headed just wide from a corner. Substitute Vivar Dorado could have scored for the locals when he fired a shot over the top after Toño had blocked an effort from Llorente, but with a draw on the cards Duscher decided it almost by accident, sticking out a foot to deflect Oscar Serrano's cross up and over the keeper.
