Atlético Madrid regained fourth spot after a comfortable 3-0 win over bottom club Levante in the last match on Sunday evening. Except for a possible penalty by Pernía on Geijo early on, Javier Aguirre's side were never under threat, and Luis García went close a couple of times before Simao steered a header through a crowded goal mouth to open the scoring. And later in the first half the Portuguese winger returned to his more usual role of provider, Diego Forlán having the easiest of tasks of turning his cross into the net from close up.

Riga did bring a good save out of Abbiati before the half time whistle, but early in the second half Forlán got his second of the night after Kujovic could only push out a shot from Agüero. After that Raúl García, Forlán and Agüero could all have added to the scoreline, but by then it was all over. Riga did have a late goal disallowed for offside, but otherwise they were missing in action, and with thirteen points between them and safety they are already planning for a return to the second division.
