Villarreal moved up to within two points of second placed Barcelona after a 2-0 victory over Zaragoza on Sunday evening. Nihat opened the scoring for the locals in the tenth minute after controlling a long pass from Marcos Senna, but after that they suffered, Oliveira in particular hitting the post and wasting a couple more chances after the break. Matuzalem also tested Diego López, and the locals didn't have much of a look in until Tomasson shot over the top shortly before the break.

The match followed in the same vein after the restart, López saving again from Oscar and Oliveira putting a couple of efforts just wide of the target. Nihat fired a free kick just wide at the other end though, and twenty minutes in to the second half substitute Rossi made it two from the penalty spot after Paredes brought down Capdevila. Zaragoza kept up the pressure but to no avail, and the locals held on to extend their unbeaten record in the league to seven games.
