Athletic Bilbao have been struggling again this season, but they seem at last to be on the way to maintaining their ever present record in the top flight after beating Getafe 1-0 in the last match of the weekend. The bad weather meant there was a smaller turnout than usual, but the fans saw an entertaining game.

Llorente could have scored a couple of times early on with a bit more luck, and David Cortés replied at the other end. With just under half an hour on the clock though Etxeberría got what was to prove the only goal, turning Del Horno's cross past Pato on the near post.

Both sides created chances after the break, with Llorente hitting the post, Aranzubia saving from Uche and Casquero having an effort cleared off the line. Albín also hit the post late on, but in the end Getafe's long season took it's toll, and they fell to their first defeat in twelve games in all competitions. The win takes Athletic up to eighth, level with their opponents in the table.
