Barcelona stay in third spot, behind Villarreal on their head-to-head record after the Catalans were held to a 0-0 draw by Getafe. Both sides had played gruelling ties in Europe mid-week, and the visitors lost Pablo and Mario to injuries before the break. Manu brought an early save out of Valdés before Milito tested Pato and Eto'o fired a shot against the post, Henry shot over the bar and Valdés kept out efforts from Albín and Granero in an even first half.

Thinking of the return leg against Schalke, Rijkaard took off Milito and Eto'o at the break, bringing on Giovani who hit the post soon after coming on. A few minutes later Xavi drove a shot against the woodwork for the third time, and Pato did well to save Gudjohnsen's header later on. Barça had missed out on another opportunity to close up on Real Madrid though, and after only one win in their last six games their frustrated fans turned on the directors' box at the end of the game.
