Betis and Valladolid drew 1-1 in a tense match on Wednesday night, a result which favoured both sides in their fight to avoid the drop. The match took place in the Cartuja stadium in Sevilla after Betis's ground was closed for disciplinary reasons, but the nerves were evident and the two teams went in at the break with the scoreline unmoved.

Just six minutes in to the second half the locals were awarded a penalty after García Calvo handled in the area, Mark González converting the spot kick. But a few minutes later half time substitute Víctor saved a valuable point for the visitors after Llorente laid back a long cross. Betis are now mathematically safe, and their opponents are now three points clear of the bottom three.
