Sevilla are closing in on fourth place Atlético, and they are now level on points with them pending their game tomorrow after beating the other contenders Racing Santander 0-3. It was a thrilling match, with Duscher hitting the bar from an early penalty after Dragutinovic handled in the area. Smolarek fired another chance over the bar, but with half an hour on the clock Dani Alves forced himself a corner, and Fazio ran in to power a header past Toño and open the scoring.

It was end to end stuff after that, Palop somehow keeping out Tchité from point blank range and Kanouté crashing a shot against the bar at the other end before the break. Both keepers were in action again after the restart, and Ayoze cleared off the line from Maresca.

A few minutes later Maresca had a penalty appeal turned down, but with heavy rain falling Fazio got his second of the night after the defence failed to clear a long free kick. Smolarek brought another good save out of Palop, but soon afterwards the Cantabrians were left with ten men when Ayoze picked up a second booking. And with the game already in injury time Renato wrapped things up with a shot which deflected in off Moratón.
