Festivities at the Madrigal stadium, where second placed Villarreal rounded off their best ever season with a 2-0 win over Espanyol. The Catalans will be thankful to see the end of the season after nine matches without a win, and they almost gave in early on when Lacruz turned a Javi Venta cross against his own post.

It was only a matter of time though, and Javi Venta opened the scoring with just after half an hour gone after the defence failed to clear a cross from Capdevila. With the first half coming to a close Pires got the second after running on to a return pass from Nihat to beat Kameni, and it was all over.

Luis García did try his luck a couple of times for the visitors after the restart, but their hearts weren't in it, and for the seventh time in nine games they failed to trouble the scoreline.
