Second Division A - Day 31

Leaders Numancia took another big step towards promotion with a 1-2 win at Gimnàstic on Saturday evening. Moisés appeared to have saved a point for the Catalans when he equalised in the ninetieth minute after Del Pino had given the visitors the lead earlier on. But substitute Toché came on to win the game in the dying seconds, heading in a corner to take his side seven points clear at the top pending Sunday's games.

Nàstic drop down into the relegation zone, further below Alavés, who drew 0-0 against Castellón, and Las Palmas, who won 0-3 at Granada 74. All the goals for the Canary Islanders came in the second half, Márquez getting the first after his penalty kick was saved, and Adrián Colunga adding two more later on. Xerez stay in next to bottom spot though despite a 1-1 draw at Sevilla Atlético. Pedro Ríos gave them the lead soon after the break, but Juanjo equalised a few minutes later. (29.03.08)

Numancia's gap at the top is now six points after second placed Málaga could only draw 0-0 with Albacete on Sunday evening. The Andalusians are still six points above third spot though after Sporting Gijón also drew 0-0 at Celta earlier in the day. Both were helped however by Racing Ferrol, who produced the surprise of the day, beating Real Sociedad 1-2 to move away from the danger zone. A Jonathan Martín penalty and a Rudy Carlier strike put the Galicians two up before Carlos Martínez got one back near the end.

Elche also failed to close up on the top three after they drew 1-1 at Cádiz, although they are now equal with Real on points. Cobo squared the match with just two minutes to go after Dani had given the Andalusians the lead a few minutes earlier. Tenerife are up to seventh after they beat bottom club Poli Ejido 2-1, although they were trailing for a long time to a Chico goal until Nino scored twice in the last seven minutes.

Elsewhere Salamanca moved up to the top half of the table after a 1-0 victory against Eibar, David Rodríguez scoring early on to take his side level on points with their opponents. And Hércules are a point above both of them after a 2-1 win over Córdoba, Bejan and Jaume putting them two up shortly before the break, with Javi Moreno scoring for the away side after the restart.(30.03.08)
