Second Division A - Day 32

Third placed Sporting Gijón failed to close up on the top two after they were held to a 3-3 draw by struggling Gimnàstic on Saturday. The Asturians took the lead three times, twice through Bilic and then through Omar, but strikes from Buades, Campano and Moisés pegged them back each time. Tenerife's outside chance of promotion is slipping away though after they drew 1-1 against Canary Island neighbours Las Palmas, Marcos Márquez saving a point for the locals right at the end after Pablo Sicilia had opened the scoring four minutes earlier.

The fight to avoid relegation is hotting up, with Xerez moving to within a point of Nàstic after beating local rivals Cádiz 2-1. Yordi got the winner in the last minute after Dani had equalised Aythami's earlier strike. Alavés are only a point outside of the bottom four after they lost 2-0 to neighbours Eibar, Goiria and Del Olmo getting the goals either side of half time. And on a day for derby games, Racing Ferrol moved away from the danger zone with a 2-1 victory over regional opponents Celta, an Agus own goal giving them the three points after strikes at either end by Chema Mato and then Rosada. Numancia are moving ever closer to a return to the top flight after a 2-1 victory over second placed Málaga on Sunday lunchtime. Carmelo opened the scoring for the leaders before the break, and although Gerardo equalised on the hour mark, Carmelo got his second of the day two minutes later to take his side nine points clear at the top. Fourth placed Real Sociedad a just a point behind Sporting after coming from behind to beat Hércules 2-1 later in the day. Delibasic and Fran Mérida got the goals late on to cancel out Sendoa's strike and give new coach Juan Manuel Lillo a first win. Elche drop two points behind the Basque side though after they were held at home to a 0-0 draw by Granada 74.

Closer than ever though for the four relegation spots after Albacete beat Sevilla Atlético 1-0, Calandria getting the only goal five minutes from the end to take the Manchegans to within a point of safety. Bottom club Poli Ejido are three points adrift of the rest after they could only draw 1-1 with Salamanca, although they have Robles to thank for a late equaliser after a Quique Martín penalty gave the visitors the lead a few minutes earlier. Córdoba are not out of danger though after they drew 1-1 at Castellón, Javi Moreno's late goal following a Tabares penalty only keeping them three points above the drop zone. (06.04.08)
