A bad start for Betis, who lost 0-1 to neighbours Recreativo on the opening weekend. The Andalusians have been looking desperately for a new striker, but Pavone put in a good performance, steering a header wide of the post early on. It was Recre's new man Adrián Colunga who opened the scoring though, controlling a cross from Marco Rubén and turning past Melli before poking a shot past Casto, referee Megia Dávila waving away appeals for hand ball.

After that though it was up to Riesgo to ensure the three points, the on loan Real Sociedad keeper making a couple of first class saves from Pavone, and also pushing a long effort from Xisco round the post. Capi struck an acrobatic volley just wide as well, but there was no way past a well ordered defence. Recre had the start they wanted, and Betis have just over 24 hours to sign that new number nine.
