Honours were shared in the match between Osasuna and Villarreal, both sides scoring from dead ball kicks after the break as the game ended 1-1. The action began straight from the kick off, Guille Franco, Kike Sola and Ezquerro all failing to convert early chances, and Roversio had to head an effort from Gonzalo off the line later in the first half. Ezquerro and Ibagaza both failed to find the target with long shots, and Ricardo did well to punch out another long range effort from Cazorla shortly before the half time whistle.

Euro 2008 star Marcos Senna put the visitors ahead though early in the second half, apparently his first ever goal from a free kick (hard to believe knowing some of his previous efforts). But Héctor Font headed just wide of the post, and soon afterwards the "Iranian connection" forged the equaliser, Masoud being brought down by Godín as he advanced on goal and his fellow countryman Nekounam converting the resulting penalty.

Godín was sent off for the tackle, but numbers were evened up soon afterwards when Miguel Flaño was also shown the red card by referee Alvaro Izquierdo. After that the two sides settled for a draw, the first points on the board of what is going to be a long season.
