First division football returned to the Rosaleda stadium, where Málaga and Athletic Bilbao got their first points on the board in a which ended scoreless. Albert Luque was also back in Spanish football, and he tried to catch out Iraizoz from the halfway line early on with a long shot which eventually went well wide. Luque's strike partner Baha also tested the keeper later in the first half, with Yeste trying out Arnau's reflexes at the other end with an overhead kick which the keeper could only push over the bar for a corner.

The Basque side began the second half well, with Javi Martínez firing a good chance well over the top and Susaeta and Iraola bring good saves out of Arnau. The locals responded, Duda driving a free kick wide of the mark, substitute Adrián López having a penalty appeal turned down and De Barros and Eliseu firing shots over the top. But in the end the fans had to go home without seeing a goal, happy at least though that their respective sides were off the mark.
