Almería are up to second spot after they beat regional rivals Málaga 1-0. The two sides had never met in the top flight before, but it was the locals who dominated early on, with Negredo in particular testing Arnau with a header from Mané's free kick, and putting a couple more chances wide. Málaga's only reply was long effort from Miguel Angel which failed to find the mark.

With a quarter of an hour to go Negredo got what was to prove the winner, heading a José Ortíz cross down past Arnau on the far post. And Natalio could have extended the lead had his shot not been turned for a corner a few minutes later. Both sides ended with ten men after Miguel Angel and Ortíz were shown straight red cards, and Málaga ended the weekend in next to bottom spot having only picked up one point to date.
