Movements at the foot of the table, where Sporting Gijón moved off the bottom after picking up their first points of the season in a 0-2 win at Mallorca. Carmelo opened the scoring for the Asturians early on after a quick passing move with Luis Morán, and the midfielder could have added to the lead when he shot wide soon afterwards.

Aduríz and Webó both wasted chances at the other end before the break that they would normally have put away, and five minutes in to the second half Canella put the Asturians two up after picking up a return pass from Diego Castro.

Bilic hit the bar after that and headed a corner over the top a few minutes later, but it took some brave goalkeeping from Cuéllar to stop the locals from scoring, with saves in particular from Webó, Varela and Trejo. Sastre cleared another effort from Arango off the line, and Webóí fired a penalty against the post after he had been felled by the keeper. It was just not their night!
