Racing Santander and Deportivo have important UEFA Cup ties midweek, and the two sides seemed happy to play out a 0-0 draw and save their strength for Thursday. The Galicians had not lost in the Sardinero stadium since 1996, and Filipe and Colotto cleaned up attacks from Valera and Pereira early on. The locals almost went ahead on the stroke of half time though when Luccin fired a free kick against the post.

Depor responded after the restart, Lafita bringing a good save out of Toño following a set piece free kick, and Juan Rodríguez and Riki going close. Rodríguez came close to scoring late on when he fired a shot against the bar from the edge of the area, but after Luccin was sent off for a second bookable offence both sides settled for a point.
