Valencia held on to top spot after drawing 1-1 at Recreativo on Sunday evening. Lucas Alcaraz was making his home debut, but his side were dominated by the leaders in the first half. Manuel Fernandes brought a good save out of Riesgo with a long shot and Joaquín went close a couple of times, but the two teams went in at the break with the scoreboard unmoved.

Just two minutes after the restart though the locals took the lead, Javi Guerrero cutting in from the left wing before setting up Camuñas to beat Renan with a shot in off the post. But David Villa scrambled the equaliser past Riesgo a few minutes later after the keeper could only push out Mata's header. And after that Renan kept out substitutes Ersen Martin and Adrián Colunga to keep the Ches a point ahead of Barcelona.
