For the second time this week the fans at the Madrigal stadium saw a feast of goals after Villarreal and Atlético Madrid drew 4-4. The visitors needed a result after league defeats against Sevilla, Barcelona and Real Madrid, and within a minute they were ahead after Simao fired a long shot which Diego López could only push on to the bar, the ball bouncing down over the line. And a few minutes later Simao left Gonzalo for dead before crossing in to the area, Godín's attempted clearance only falling as far as Diego Forlán who beat the keeper with a shot on the turn.

A few minutes before the interval though Banega got himself sent off for a second bookable offence, and within a minute of the restart the locals got one back when Leo Franco spilled a long shot from Marcos Senna in to the net. That opened the floodgates, and in the next twenty minutes Llorente, Gonzalo and Rossi added three more as the Atlético defence fell apart, a repeat of the four Pellegrini's side scored in the second half against Aalborg.

But Aguirre's side are always full of surprises, and once again they rallied, Simao getting his second of the night and then setting up Raúl García for the equaliser with a long free kick. An excellent night of football, and a great advert once again for La Liga.
