Last week's leaders Valencia are off the top of the table after they were surprisingly beaten 2-4 by struggling Racing Santander. Unai Emery's side had not lost all season, and David Villa could have given them the lead when he lobbed a shot over the bar when free in front of Toño early on. But midway through the first half it was the visitors who went ahead when Munitis slid the ball across for Tchité steer a shot past Renan.

Villa levelled the scores from the penalty spot a few minutes later however after Joaquín was hacked down by Sepsi, and the Spanish international striker could have put his side further ahead had Toño not been on his toes a couple of times later in the first half.

Tchité restored the lead with a snap shot from outside of the area just four minutes after the restart however, but Joaquín equalised again after Toño dropped a corner at his feet, referee Turienzo Alvarez waving away claims for a foul by Villa on the keeper. And Joaquín almost scored again when his header was kept out by Toño a few minutes later.

Once again though the Cantabrians went ahead, Tchité powering in to head a Munitis free kick past Renan to complete his hat-trick. Mata had an effort saved as the locals tried desperately to come back once again, but with five minutes to go Racing launched another attack, and Albelda poked the ball through his own net lying on the ground after a series of rebounds inside the local penalty area. The win takes Racing away from the drop zone, and saves the head of under pressure coach Muñiz, for another few days at least.
