Racing Santander moved up to the top half of the table after a 1-0 win over Sporting Gijón, actually their first win at home in the league all season. The visitors had won five on the trot though in all competitions, and Toño had to keep out Kike Mateo early on. César Navas almost gave the locals the lead though a few minutes later when his header came back off the bar, and Colsa fired the rebound over the top.

With just under an hour gone the Cantabrians did go ahead though, Tchité netting his fifth in eight days with a shot which took a wicked deflection off Camacho. Oriol missed a good chance to score a second a quarter of an hour later, but the Asturians came close to saving a point late on, Diego Castro heading over and then bringing the save of the night out of Toño in the dying minutes.
