Athletic Bilbao narrowly escaped a sixth loss in a row in the league, two late goals saving a point in a 3-3 draw at Mallorca. Cléber Santana headed the home side in to the lead early on from Jurado's cross, and Varela brought a good save out of Iraizoz soon afterwards. Llorente had a header cleared off the line at the other end though, and with the first half coming to a close Iraola equalised from the penalty spot after referee Medina Cantalejo ruled that Ramis had handled deliberately in the area as players battled to reach a David López free kick.
Twelve minutes in to the second half Arango restored the lead, crashing a shot in off the far post after ex Athletic striker Aduríz set him up. Llorente had a goal disallowed for a previous foul (again unclear) and Nunes was let off another penalty when the ball hit his arm in the area. And a few minutes later Arango appeared to have won it for the Islanders when he latched on to another Aduriz assist to curl a shot past the keeper.
With twelve minutes to go though some slow defending allowed Ion Vélez to reach Yeste's pass and poke a shot in off the post. Athletic were back in it, and in the last minute Llorente got above the defence to head a Susaeta cross past the keeper for the equaliser. It was not enough to take his side out of the drop zone, but at least they have started once again to pick up points.
