Real Madrid lost 1-0 at Valladolid on Saturday evening, a result which puts in doubt Bernd Schuster's continuity at the club. After the defeat against Real Unión in the cup midweek, the coach was under pressure to get a positive result in the Nuevo Zorilla stadium. But his side couldn't get going, with Marcelo clearing an effort from García Calvo off the line before Higuaín brought a save out of Asenjo in their only real chance throughout the first half.

Three minutes after the restart Canobbio picked up a cross from Pedro León and fired a shot past Casillas for what was to prove the only goal of the match. Schuster brought on Sneijder, but the Dutch midfielder came up against Asenjo a couple of times, and the young keeper made another vital save from Raúl after that. Madrid's frustrations were clear when Heinze was sent off after picking up a second booking for arguing with the referee near the end. All eyes will be on the boardroom at the Bernabeu stadium this week.
