With only Real Madrid winning out of the top five, sixth placed Atlético Madrid had a chance to close the gap on the leaders. However they could do more than draw 1-1 at Numancia thanks to a last second penalty by the home side. Diego Forlán opened the scoring after Simao put him through with just over half an hour gone. And Forlán and Maniche both brought saves out of Juan Pablo as the visitors controlled the first half.

Things changed radically after the restart, especially after Kresic brought on Bellvis and Brit. Ortega brushed the top of the bar and Nagore hit the post, and Leo Franco had to scramble Goiria's header off the line, referee Ramírez Domíngez waving away appeals that the ball had crossed in to the net.

The local pressure continued, Brit hitting the post anf firing an overhead kick over the top. But just when it seemed that Atlético had held on, Ramírez ruled that Perea had fouled Brit, and Barkero stepped up to convert the resulting penalty. Atleti were gob-smacked, but on balance the locals more than deserved their point.
