Valladolid's recent good form continued, and they moved up to eighth after a 3-0 victory over Mallorca. García Calvo opened the scoring with just under half an hour gone after Lux could only push out Pedro León's wide free kick, and Goitom should have made it two when free on goal, his half hit shot dribbling past the post.

At the other end Webó tested Asenjo with an overhead free kick, but the concern in the visiting dressing room at half time was about defender David Navarro, who was taken to hospital with concussion shortly before the break (luckily without serious consequences in the end).

After the restart though it was referee Alvarez Izquierdo who was the main protagonist. Refereeing his first match since he was put on ice for some bad decisions in the Real Madrid versus Athletic Bilbao match, he failed to see Vivar Dorado bundle the ball in to the net with his arm for Valladolid's second goal.

And ten minutes later Alvarez further upset the visitors after he ignored his linesman's offside flag against Pedro Léon to award a third goal to Goitom, scored with the defenders standing still waiting for a whistle which never came. That deflated Gregorio Manzano's side, and they could have lost by a bigger margin had Lux not tipped a long shot from Pedro León over the bar near the end.
