Seventh placed Deportivo stay level with Atlético Madrid on points after a 2-0 victory over Málaga, their fifth win in six games in the league. Both keepers were called on to make important saves in the first hour of the match, Goitia tipping over an early free kick from Verdú and Aranzubia responding with a stop from Albert Luque. De Guzmán and Mista fired efforts wide of the target, and shortly after the restart Aranzubia made further saves from Eliseu, Luque and Duda.

The action continued, Goitia keeping out a Ze Castro header and Juan Rodríguez heading the following corner against the bar. But midway through the second half a mistake by the visiting keeper following a set piece free kick allowed a long shot by Lafita in to the net. Four minutes later Weligton tripped half time substitute Omar Bravo in the area, and the Mexican striker stepped up to drill home the resulting penalty, his first league goal since joining the club in the summer. The game was as good as over.
