Racing Santander beat Valladolid 0-1 on Sunday evening to move safely up to mid-table, two points now behind their opponents. The only goal of the match came from new signing Zigic, who was playing his first match after returning to his old club on loan from Valencia, the striker controlling a long cross from Marcano before beating Justo Villar.

The locals were looking to build on their good start to the season, and Pedro León was a constant danger, bringing a good save out of Toño with a free kick and firing another shot just wide. Racing could have gone ahead shortly before the break when Marcano steered a shot against the post following a free kick, but Zigic was ruled offside when he turned the rebound in to the net. After the goal Pedro León came close to equalising after Goitom set him up, but the visitors held on after that for three valuable points.
