Málaga are up to a comfortable eighth place after they beat Sporting Gijón 1-0 on Sunday evening. The match got off to a slow start, with the only chances a long shot from Bilic and a run by Eliseu which ended in nothing. With just over half an hour gone though Lolo got ahead of Sergio Sánchez to head Duda's corner in to the net and open the scoring.

After that Sporting disappeared, and the locals could have added to their scoreline after the break. Sergio saved from Adrián, and Apoño and Ardrián both shot wide of the target. Albert Luque came on for the last few minutes and almost caught out the keeper with a long shot, and then had a penalty appeal turned down. A good start to the year for Tapia's side though, and they are well on the way to their objective of staying up.
