Sevilla moved back up to second spot pending Sunday's games after a 1-0 win over Numancia on Saturday evening. They struggled to do so however, even though the visitors played most of the second half with ten men after Cisma picked up a second booking. Debutant keeper Javi Varas was called on a number of times, saving a Goiria header and a Barkero free kick early on, and Brit put another effort wide.

The locals gradually took control however, with Kanouté shooting wide and Mosquera heading over shortly before the break. Goiria brought another good save out of Varas after the restart, but with their opponents down to ten men Jesús Navas and Luis Fabiano both went close. The visitors held on as long as they could, but with eight minutes to go Renato picked up a cross from Navas to seal the victory and give the Andalusians their best ever points tally at the halfway point of the season.
