Atlético Madrid hold on to sixth spot after drawing 1-1 at Almería in the last match on Sunday evening. The pre-match build up was all about the two Mexican coaches, but it was Hugo Sánchez who got the edge over Javier Aguirre when Kalu Uche latched on to a Juanma Ortíz cross and beat Leo Franco at the second attempt in the sixth minute.

Sinama-Pongolle equalised for the visitors though a quarter of an hour later with a back header past Diego Alves following an Antonio López free kick, and the keeper had to be at his best to save from Forlán before the half time whistle.

Soon after the restart the home side had Pellerano sent off for a second bookable offence, and Atlético went for the win. Sinama headed against the bar and Agüero failed to turn in an easy chance, but when Banega was also sent off, both sides settled for a point.
