The battle to avoid the drop zone looks like being a long one, and Betis were dragged back in to it after a 1-0 defeat at Recreativo. Both sides had chances in the first hour or so, Morris firing a free kick just wide before the break and Sergio García hitting the post early in the second half.

With eighteen minutes to go though Camuñas headed what was to prove the only goal from a cross by new signing Maidana just three minutes after he came on to make his debut, giving his side a fourth successive home win and taking them two points above their regional rivals. It was another blow for Paco Chaparro, and if his side don't beat Mallorca in their midweek cup match he may be history.
