With an important cup tie coming up midweek, Sporting Gijón can be forgiven for taking their eyes off their main objective of staying up. Getafe took advantage though to get their league season back on track with a 5-1 victory which takes the pressure off coach Víctor Muñoz.

The star of the game though was Soldado, who took full advantage of an early injury to Manu del Moral to come on and bag himself a hat-trick. The ex Real Madrid striker opened the scoring within two minutes of making his appearance, and two minutes later Granero made it two with a long shot which looped off a defender over the head of Lafuente, who had only joined the club from Athletic Bilbao a few days ago.

Barral got one back on the stroke of half time, and brought a good save out of Jacobo soon after the restart. But Uche set up Soldado for his second of the evening a few minutes later, and then scored the fourth himself after Casquero put him through. Two minutes later Soldado completed the scoring from the penalty spot after Neru brought him down in the area, and it was time to go home.
