Atlético Madrid drop out of the European spots after a 1-2 defeat at the hands of Valladolid. Neither side had won since the start of the year, but the visitors got off to the better start, with Canobbio having a penalty appeal turned down and Goitom and Sesma going close. And five minutes after the restart Leo Franco could only punch a corner out as far as Luis Prieto, who drilled a shot back in to the net.

Three minutes later Atlético were level, Diego Forlán firing in a first time volley from a Sinama-Pongolle cross which was going wide before García Calvo deflected it in to his own net. For a few minutes the locals were back in it, but Sesma turned a good chance wide before Pernía brougt down Goitom in the area. And Víctor converted the resulting penalty to give his side the three points and leave Javier Aguirre's job hanging by a thread.
