Valencia stay a point behind third placed Sevilla after losing 1-0 at Osasuna in the last match of the weekend. Heavy snowfalls in the Pamplona region meant that the fixture was in danger of cancellation, although conditions improved on the day and the game was allowed to take place.

Both sides had chances in the first half, with Plasil and Juanfran bringing saves out of César and Villa and Silva going close at the other end. The visitors got the better start after the break, with Baraja missing the target and Mata having a shot blocked, but a few minutes later the locals went ahead, Miguel Flaño flinging himself forward to head Puñal's wide free kick past the keeper.

Valencia did their best to get back in it, Villa shooting wide and Manuel Fernandes forcing Roberto in to a good save. Morientes tested the keeper a couple of times after that, but Camacho's side held on for three important points which takes them out of the relegation spots for the first time in fifteen weeks.
