Valladolid's objective this season is to stay up, and they moved safely up to mid-table after beating Athletic Bilbao 2-1 on Sunday evening. Víctor put the home side ahead from the penalty spot after Iraizoz had brought down Jonathan Sesma a few minutes before half time, and the veteran striker got his second of the night after picking up Sesma's pass early in the second half.

Athletic had a chance to get one back soon afterwards when referee Paradas Romero ruled that Nano had fouled Fernando Llorente in the area. And although Llorente fired his spot kick against the post, Orbaiz turned the ball past Villar after the rebound was played back in. Any hope of a come-back ended though when Yeste was sent off for an off-the-ball push on Sesma, and the Basque side drop a point behind their opponents in the table as a result.
